How toilet slippers work
A separate pair of slippers waits at the toilet door. Step into them on the way in, and out of them on the way back.
- 1In homes, ryokan, some restaurants and clinics, you'll spot a pair of slippers waiting just inside (or outside) the toilet door.
- 2Leave your house slippers at the door, step into the toilet slippers, and wear them only inside the toilet room.
- 3On the way out, step out of the toilet slippers, line them up facing in for the next person, and put your own slippers back on.
Heads up. The one everyone forgets is walking back out still wearing the toilet slippers. Nobody will say anything; just remember to swap back.
