RevealJapan

Privacy Policy

Reveal Japan is a publication of editorial articles. We collect the minimum data needed to understand which articles serve readers and nothing else.

What we currently collect

Nothing on the server side. The site is statically generated. There is no login, no profile, no comment system, and no per-reader tracking on Reveal Japan’s own infrastructure.

Analytics (consent-gated)

Reveal Japan uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles serve readers — but only after you click Accept in the cookie banner. Until you accept, no GA4 scripts load and no data is collected. If you decline, GA4 stays off entirely. You can change your choice any time via Cookie Settings in the footer.

Newsletter

Email addresses submitted through the newsletter signup are collected via Google Forms and stored in a Google Sheet that Reveal Japan editorial accesses. Nothing else is captured at submission. If we move to a dedicated newsletter provider later (Buttondown, Beehiiv, etc.), this section is updated and existing addresses are migrated only with notice.

What we do not do

Cookies

A single first-party preference is stored in your browser’s localStorage to remember your cookie banner choice. If analytics is later enabled and you accept it, GA4 will set its own first-party cookies under our domain. You can clear these any time via your browser settings or by revisiting the cookie banner via the footer link.

Affiliate links

There are currently zero affiliate links on the site. See Affiliate Disclosurefor the rules we’ll follow if any are added in the future.
